23 states are already approved for Lost Wage assistance.
Under the Stafford Act, President Trump has authorized the Federal Emergency Management Agency to expend up to $44 billion from the Disaster Relief Fund for lost wage payments. Administrator Gaynor has already approved 23 states for grant funds to supplement COVID-19 assistance to the unemployed.
The federal program increases the amount of assistance states offer their unemployed citizens without a significant increase in the cost of unemployment insurance to the states.
A statement from FEMA said, “This assistance is intended to help people support themselves and their families as they look for work. An extra $300 per week will help those struggling with unemployment to buy school supplies for their children, put food on the table and possibly prevent eviction.”
September 10 is the deadline for states and territories to apply for these funds.
